This bit is for any colt or finished Barrel & Polo horse in both competition and training.

This bit is great for any horses first introduction to a bit with a mouthpiece. This bit helps a young or green horse to understand bit pressures better than a D-Ring or O-Ring snaffle by using the gag feature. This Gag feature of the bit gives the horse a warning that you are going to want a response, before the rein pressure causes the bit to engage the mouthpiece and force a response. This creates a nice light touch response from the horse as he learns to give to a bit. With the D-Ring and O-Ring snaffles, the horse gets no warning at all, only sudden heavy bit pressure on the mouth from the reins forcing him to give to the pressure in defense, or push into the bit to try to get away from the pressure. By keeping young horses from ever learning to push against a bit in defense, they are able to learn how to give to the pressure of a bit with a mouthpiece much faster.

This is the first bit I ever put in my colts mouth, I keep the curb strap loose at first, making the bit work like an O-Ring or D-Ring snaffle, but the gag action gives them a warning that a command is coming, so the horse can respond without fear or fighting the sudden command from instant bit pressure. Once the horse is comfortable with the feel of this bit, I tighten the curb a little more. As the horse advances and I am asking for more speed, I increase the curb pressure up against the jaw bone to give me more control at higher speed.

Curb Action & Collection: The curb placement enhances collection and break at the poll so the horse can get his but in the ground to rate a barrel. Adjust the curb strap to fit snugly against the horses jaw bones.

Gag Action: The Gag design asks the horse to respond before the bits action increases at the end of the gag and enforces the riders command, teaching the horse to respond to the lightest amount of bit pressure to avoid the heavy pressure at the end of the gag.

Mouth Piece: Three piece twisted wire with a dog bone. The three piece mouthpiece works on the bars of the horses mouth individually, leaving the tongue and roof of the horses mouth free from pressure. This allows the mouthpiece to only give signals to one side of the horse at a time, and give the horse clearer precise signals from the riders reins. The Sweet Iron on the mouthpiece keeps performance horses mouths moist while working under stressful conditions, and helps horses to relax during competition.
